Rodney Byrd: Saxaphonist

“Music is a gift from GOD” Rodney says, and my goal in life is to show my appreciation and to bring joy to as many people as I can.

Rodney Byrd was born in Riverside, California in 1953. In 1966, his family moved to Oakland, California where he attended King Junior high.

In 1969, he began playing alto sax. Upon reaching Skyline High School, he played 2nd tenor in the stage band. The following year he transferred to Castlemont High earning a scholarship to the UC Berkeley Young Musicians Program. After graduation he began pursuing his music career. Rodney has played with a wide variety of artists such as DJ Rogers, Gladys Knight and the Pips, George Benson, Chaka Kahn and a host of others.
